Your Library Card

Who can get a library card, how to apply, and how to use your library card.

All resident of the City of Colfax and all rural residents of Jasper County may borrow materials from the library. Any Iowa resident who has a valid photo ID may borrow materials from the Colfax Library under the Open Access Program. To be issued a Colfax Library card all persons must show some proof of ID and fill out a registration card which is available at the front desk.

Service will not be denied because of religious, racial, social, economic or political status.

Library cards will not be issued until 8 years of age. Younger children are encouraged to visit the library with their parents and may borrow books and videos with their parent's card. Children 8 years old up to 14 must have a registration card filled in and signed by a parent or guardian.

Books, magazines and audio books are loaned for a 3 week period of time. All materials will have a 2 day grace period. Items not returned by the end of the grace period will accrue a 10 cent fine for each day the item is late. The maximum fine for books is $5. If the book is lost or damaged the patron is responsible for the cost of the book.

DVDs are loaned for 7 days with a 2 day grace period. The fee for an overdue movie is a $1 a day. The maximum fine for movies is not to exceed the replacement value of the movie. If the movie is lost or damaged the patron is responsible for the cost of the movie.

Returned items can be brought inside to the front desk or put into the drop box next to the entrance.

Books or movies can be renewed or an item can be reserved by calling 515-674-3625 and leaving a message or emailing us at colfaxlib@mediacombb.net.

If a patron's unpaid fines reach or exceed $10.00, library privileges will be suspended until fines are paid.

If a patron has a book or movie that is more than 3 weeks overdue, library privileges will be suspended until materials are returned.
